Travelling from Chania to the Samaria Gorge
The Samaria Gorge is a one-way hike of around 16 km, typically taking 5–7 hours, starting at Xyloskalo near Omalos — reachable by road from Chania — and ending at Agia Roumeli on the south coast, a village with no road access at all. Most hikers continue from Agia Roumeli by ferry to Sougia or Chora Sfakion, then by bus back to Chania.
